Candlepin Bowling is Northeastern America’s secret sport. Played only in New England and the Eastern Canadian Provinces, candlepin was invented in Worcester Massachusetts in 1881. Outside of this area no one knows about candlepin, having been overshadowed by game of ten-pin, which most alleys play throughout the world today.
Small Balls: a Candlepin Odyssey takes a close look at this obscure sport, and the idiosyncratic people who play. The film is currently in production, and we’re looking for old candlepin photographs, ephemera, films and most of all, bowlers with great stories.
